190106 Р27 0“Polish-based company WB Electronics (part of WB GROUP ) represented a project of new medium-range air defense system armed with Ukrainian-made R-27 air-to-air guided missile”, - Defense Express reports with reference to WB Electronics representative Roman Mushal.

The project was represented by the representative of WB Electronics during a specialised conference in Dęblin, Poland.

According to Mushal, at the heart of the project should be the advanced version of the Ukrainian-made R-27 air-to-air guided missile, prodused by enterprises of Ukraine’s state-run military-industrial Concern Ukroboronprom.

Roman Mushal, a representative of WB Electronics, stated that most of the necessary elements of the system have already been created, namely the engine, fuel, and homing heads of three types (active, passive and thermal imaging).

According to Mushal, it will take three years to arrange mass production of such air defense systems in Poland.

The new medium-range missile system will be used to protect the important buildings, objects as well as ground troops against all types of aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, guided weapons, air-to-surface missiles, anti-ship missiles, anti-radar rockets, and large-caliber rockets.

Three types of R-27 air-to-air guided missiles are developed by the State Design Bureau «Luch» in Kyiv and produced by the Artem State Joint Stock Holding Company, also based in Kyiv

The hitting range of an infrared-guided missile will be up to 30 km, 25 km for active-radar homing missile, and about 110 km for a passive radar version.

The system will be mounted on a Polish-made Jelcz 662D truck and equipped with a vertical launch system.

As Defense Express reported earlier, Ukroboronprom and Poland’s private-sector defense supplier WB Electronics S.A. signed agreement on developing new air defense and SAM technologies in December 2016. The collaboration concered co-development of a prototype short-range air defense system under the Narew program. A relevant project, currently known as R-27 ADS (Air Defense System), has been developed by Kyiv-based JSHC Artem.
